Speech and Language Teaching Assistant

Nurture Education is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to support students with communication and language needs within a specialist education setting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience or a strong interest in speech, language, and communication to work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.

The Role

As a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant, you will work under the guidance of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist to support students aged 16-25 with a range of needs, including learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and complex needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting the delivery of speech and language therapy programmes
  • Working with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Supporting communication using AAC and other appropriate strategies
  • Assisting with the preparation of therapy resources and reports
  • Promoting communication, independence, and engagement
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and families
The Ideal Candidate
  • Has experience supporting speech, language, or communication needs
  • Has an understanding of AAC and inclusive communication approaches (desirable)
  • Is patient, adaptable, and supportive
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
