Job description
Overview

Specialty Doctor in Rheumatology (fixed term) – This post is fixed term to cover a period of maternity leave within the Rheumatology Department at Prince Charles Hospital. The post holder will be based at Prince Charles Hospital and will help develop Rheumatology services provided by the Health Board in Prince Charles Hospital and across CTMUHB, as part of a wider integrated team. This post is fixed term for up to 12 months to cover maternity leave. Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties

The post holder will be based at Prince Charles Hospital with Outpatients duties on at least one other site within CTMUHB. The post holder will participate in the outpatient management of rheumatology patients and provide support and advice for inpatients. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and strengthen the Rheumatology service. The post holder will support junior medical staff in day-to-day clinical activities within the Rheumatology team. The successful candidate will develop clinical relationships with colleagues within the Care Group and wider Health Board. As well as strengthening working relationships with Primary Care colleagues in order to improve services locally.

The post holder will be expected to undertake the following responsibilities:

  • To participate and contribute to the planning and delivery of rheumatology services; including high quality, evidenced based and multidisciplinary care for rheumatology patients in an outpatient setting and provide support and advice for inpatients as needed.
  • To develop and strengthen the Rheumatology service.
  • Work constructively as part of the MDT to provide optimal care to patients with suspected and confirmed inflammatory arthritis.
  • Participate in the outpatient management of general rheumatology patients.
  • Supervision of junior doctors and providing clinical leadership to the Rheumatology team and working with colleagues in other departments.
  • Ongoing education of medical students, junior and senior doctors, nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Engage with colleagues in Primary Care to optimise referral of patients to the rheumatology and osteoporosis services in accordance with the service referral prioritisation process.
  • Commit towards personal development and engage with the requirements for Continuing Professional Development, Appraisal and Revalidation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered with GMC with licence to practice
  • MCEM or equivalent ATLS, ALS, PALS, APLS provider status
Experience
  • At least 4 years full time postgraduate training (or it's equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) At least 3 years of which will be in a Specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience or competencies
  • Familiarity with the NHS System in UK
  • CMT 1/ 2 work in General Medicine
  • Experience as middle grade doctor
Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients, colleagues, relatives and staff; communicate openly and honestly and explain things clearly
  • Able to travel to meet requirements of the post
