Job description
Job summary

The post holder will provide psychiatric input to, and undertake psychiatric assessments and physical health assessments of patients on a low secure ward on the main Chase Farm hospital site. The post holder will be responsible for a caseload of up to 8 patients and spend 2 days per week on site.

Main duties of the job

Clinical duties include individually assessing and reviewing patients, as well as participating in ward rounds and CPAs; with opportunities available for the post holder to prepare reports for the courts, tribunal hearings, managers' hearings, and the Ministry of Justice, and to give evidence at tribunals and managers\' hearings; managing medication regimes and assessing capacity to consent to treatment; liaising with SOADs; undertaking seclusion reviews; liaising with other services including high and low secure units, prisons, physical health providers, and the Ministry of Justice about the patient\'s care.

Qualifications / Registrations
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start date
  • Section 12 Approved or eligibility for it.
Desirable
  • A postgraduate qualification in psychiatry
Skills / Abilities
  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
  • Familiarity with a wide range of theoretical and clinical approaches
  • Ability to provide medical leadership to the multi-disciplinary team and to function as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
  • Clear thoughts on how to involve service users in service development and to provide a service which is experienced as being "service-user friendly"
  • Practical experience in a short term psychological therapy
Experience / Knowledge
  • Competence in the management of a broad range of general adult mental disorders
  • Good knowledge of the biological, psychological and social determinants of adult mental disorders and evidence based management interventions
  • Up to date knowledge of recent NICE Guidelines
  • Experience with inpatient psychiatric management and with working in a multidisciplinary team
  • A doctor appointed to this grade shall have full registration with the General Medical Council
Desirable
  • Experience in Forensic Psychiatry
