Overview

Are you an experienced Physiotherapist with the passion for working with older people with frailty? Do you want to develop broad clinical skills in acute settings and grow in clinical leadership through service development opportunities? If so, we are looking for you to join our team.

We are a large, vibrant and friendly team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and therapy support workers with a shared vision of supporting older people to do what is important to them and to continue participating in their activities of daily living. This exciting post would provide you with the opportunity to rotate as a Band 6, gaining valuable clinical and leadership experience in acute care. You will be part of the RUH\'s progressive and friendly integrated therapies department, where there is a culture of promoting learning and staff and service development. Main duties of the job

To hold responsibility for your own caseload and provide a high standard therapy service in rotational posts to:

  • The Frailty Flying Squad (FFS), a dynamic team including geriatricians, medical nurse practitioners, occupational therapists and physiotherapists providing early assessment and intervention in the emergency department and Older Person\'s Rapid Assessment Area (OPRAA) for patients living with frailty.
  • The Older Person\'s Assessment Unit (OPAU) and Older Person\'s Unit Short Stay (OPUSS), our short-stay inpatient ward for patients requiring a bed for less than 72 hours.
  • The Older Person\'s Unit (OPU), inpatient wards for patients who may require care longer than 72 hours.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Diploma/degree in physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered

  • Membership with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Involvement in CSP Special Clinical Interest Groups
  • Attendance at recent relevant postgraduate courses
Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of development of specialist knowledge in working with older people (via appraisals, competencies or reflection from postgraduate study)
  • Strong understanding of the physiotherapy process and application with older people
  • Experience of supervising students and junior staff
  • Specialist knowledge of a broad range of conditions in older people
  • Clear understanding of frailty and related care needs
  • Knowledge of bio-psycho-social model to support clinical reasoning
  • Understanding of risk enablement and validated assessment tools
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience in community services and intermediate care settings
  • Experience in emergency department/rapid response service
  • Involvement in service development
  • Experience in audit or measuring clinical effectiveness
  • At least 2 years post-qualification, including acute experience
