CT/MRI Specialist Radiographer

Department: Imaging

Band 6 - £38,682 - £46,580 prorata if part‑time

Hours: 37.5 per week, 9 months fixed term, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Are you a passionate radiographer looking to take the next step in your career? This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing Imaging Department at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where you’ll help shape and expand our CT and MRI services as part of a vibrant, forward‑thinking team.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated radiographer with a commitment to excellent patient care and professional development. Working alongside our dedicated multidisciplinary team, you’ll gain valuable experience across a wide range of CT and MRI procedures, including cardiac CT, CT colonography, MSK, Neuro, angiography, and dynamic studies.

Our Imaging Department is home to state‑of‑the‑art equipment, including:

  • Two Siemens 1.5T MRI scanners on‑site
  • One GE 1.5T Voyager MRI scanner at our Community Diagnostic Centre
  • Three Canon CT scanners on‑site

And with a brand‑new Imaging Scanning Centre opening in Spring 2026, there’s never been a better time to join us.

As part of this 9‑month fixed‑term role, you’ll contribute to delivering a high‑quality, patient‑focused diagnostic service while supporting and mentoring students and junior staff. You’ll also have opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge through ongoing CPD and hands‑on experience.

As a Band 6 Radiographer, you will be expected to work independently in accordance with departmental Standard Operating procedures and be accountable for your own actions to the Section Head of the MRI Department, escalating any concerns to your manager when necessary.

The MRI service is a patient focused service. Examinations are varied, ranging from Neuro, Pelvic and Abdominal, Musculoskeletal, Breast and Peripherals. The MRI service is provided for a range of patients such as neonates and elderly, inpatients, and outpatients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a high‑quality responsive diagnostic service whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.
  • Responsible for the safe use of Imaging equipment within the MRI department, running quality assurance and fault‑finding checks on equipment and taking action as appropriate.
  • Perform a range of examinations appropriate to the requirements of the referring clinician and the medical needs of the patient as an independent and autonomous practitioner.
  • Provide clear instructions and information to support and reassure patients and carers, ensuring they comply with all safety standards during their time in the MRI department.
  • Participate in extended working hours including weekend, evening and on‑call duties as required by the service.
  • Assist in training and supervision of less experienced Radiographers and students within MRI.
  • Work within established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Undertake advanced practices such as MRI angiography, IV contrast injections, complex scans such as cancer staging, liver and bowel imaging and caring for sedated patients.
  • Develop and utilise sound skills and knowledge in all aspects of MRI Imaging.
  • Plan and prioritise own workload and assist in the triaging of workflow and patients within the MRI department by collaborating with colleagues to maximise departmental efficiency.
  • Recognise abnormalities and irregularities in images, which can sometimes be subtle and take appropriate actions.
