Overview

The post holder will join an experienced and well-established team working in mental health across Calderdale and Kirklees. The post is based on our Older People’s Mental Health ward in Calderdale.

We are seeking a candidate with the ability to work independently as a Specialist Physiotherapist with close links to other senior physiotherapists in the service area. You will also form part of the wider MDT which includes OT, Nurses, therapy assistants, Doctors, Psychology, Speech and Language and HCAs. The post holder will also be responsible for supervising a part-time physiotherapy assistant and regular student physiotherapists from the University of Huddersfield.

There is a strong network of allied health professionals across the trust with clear professional leadership and regular supervision within the profession. The Trust offers excellent opportunities for continuing development and training alongside specific In-Service training provided within each area.

Main duties of the job

Main duties

• The clinical work consists of providing a physiotherapy service to the older people’s mental health ward.
• Clinical work will cover assessments and interventions for mobility issues, neurology, falls, MSK and respiratory.
• Supervision for the post will come from an experienced Senior Physiotherapy team and peer support from other Specialist Physiotherapists based in the trust.
• You will demonstrate a high standard of clinical work and expertise, complying with the clinical governance framework and maintaining accurate and timely clinical records.
• You will serve as an effective member of the MDT.
• You will demonstrate an ability to work autonomously and as part of the physiotherapy team, as well as the wider MDT.
• If you are unsuitable for direct entry into the Band 6 post, there is an opportunity for an experienced Band 5 to undertake a development post with progression to a permanent Band 6 after achieving structured goals (in approximately 12 months).

Job responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

To assess and treat own specialist caseload within the Mental Health Service, both ward-based and community-focused.

To contribute as part of the clinical team to service development, quality initiatives and audit activities.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

Communication

• Record clinical observations and clinical information pertaining to individuals in a manner consistent with trust policy, professional standards and best practice guidelines.
• Communicate appropriate clinical information to colleagues in health, social care and other agencies, service users and their families.

• Maintain competence in core activities by attending statutory and compulsory training, including fire, vulnerable adults procedures, moving & handling, personal safety or aggression management, infection control, cultural competence.
• Participate in the trust appraisal process and develop a CPD strategy that meets identified clinical, professional and personal goals.
• Establish and maintain working practices balancing clinical work, CPD and personal life.
• Participate in regular and structured supervision and in-service training.
• Support pre-registration health and social care student placements within the clinical specialty across the trust.
