We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self‑motivated and committed Pharmacy Technician to join Dispensary Team at Croydon University Hospital

This may be an ideal opportunity for newly qualified Pharmacy Technicians or a Trainee Pharmacy Technician who has worked in community pharmacy / hospital pharmacy and would like to join our friendly and dedicated Pharmacy team in our technologically equipped Pharmacy Department at CUH.

This role will not only enable you to develop your skills within dispensary it will also enable you to build skills and experience in supervising workflow on a day‑to‑day basis.

You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be well organised, have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be able to adapt to changing demands and be committed to providing a high quality patient focused service.

Main duties of the job

The role of the successful candidate will include:

  • Provide technical support to the dispensary, including the labelling and dispensing of inpatient requests, outpatient and discharge prescriptions, controlled drugs and clinical trials.
  • Ensure a high standard of stock control and stock rotation maintained within dispensary.
  • Assist pharmacists in providing a comprehensive patient counselling service to all outpatients to optimise patient knowledge of their drugs.
  • Provide technical support in the dispensary assisting senior dispensary technician in inpatient requests, dispensing and labelling for TTA's; completion of in‑house accreditations in the dispensary.
  • Work effectively as part of a team in a multi‑disciplinary and pharmacy environment, and maintain rapport with medical and other colleagues.
  • Assist in the training of junior staff e.g. Trainee pharmacists, Pharmacy students and Student technicians.
  • To counsel patients on their medicines in accordance with departmental standards.
  • To enhance the quality of patient care.
  • To demonstrate a whole‑system patient focused approach.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is a qualified registered Pharmacy Technician who performs a range of routine and non‑routine work activities based on a broad foundation from which further skill development is possible.

The post holder is accountable for meeting the General Pharmaceutical Council Code of Ethics/Standards for Pharmacy Professionals, practising safely and effectively at all times.

Under the supervision of the Chief and Senior Technicians to help ensure the provision of a high quality, customer focused pharmaceutical service to in‑patients, discharge patients, accident and emergency patients and private patients.

Actively participate in a Continuing Professional Development programme developing professional knowledge and competence.

The post holder will work towards developing the skills of a Pharmacy Technician Higher Level.
