Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist

We are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated paediatric occupational therapists to contribute to our growing occupational therapy service.

This position is a fantastic opportunity to work and develop as an individual and as part of a team gaining clinical and operational experience in a supportive environment across a range of clinical areas. As a Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist for Achieving for Children you will provide occupational therapy assessment, intervention and advice to children, young people and their families to support their development and participation in activities of daily living and access to learning.

The Achieving for Children Paediatric Occupational Therapy Service is part of the Integrated Team for Children with Disabilities Service based at the Moor Lane Centre in Chessington, funded jointly by the Royal Borough of Kingston and NHS Kingston. The team provides a service to children and young people, aged 0 - 19, experiencing functional difficulties as a result of neurological or developmental difficulties.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist for Achieving for Children, you willcarry a specialist caseload of children and young people with a variety of complex physical, learning and social needs and be responsible for writing reports for Education Health Care Plans (EHCP) and multidisciplinary assessments/reviews.

The role will involve rotations and splits across all areas of our community services which include: Special schools (Bedelsford/Dysart and St Philips); Community based work (early years clinic/ mainstream schools, SRP's and nurseries and special supported nurseries in Kingston) and Special resources provisions in Richmond. The role will cover children and young people from birth to 18 years of age and 19 if in one of the special schools.

Job responsibilities

As a specialist paediatric Occupational Therapist you will be an experienced, autonomous practitioner whois able to work in a range of settings to provide a high quality paediatric occupational therapy service. The post holder will have experience of working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support children and young peoples occupational therapy needs and they will be experienced in providing specialist advice to other disciplines.

The Occupational Therapist will carry a specialist caseload of children and young people with a variety of complex physical, learning and social needs and be responsible for writing reports for Education Health Care Plans and multidisciplinary assessments/reviews.

Qualifications

• Diploma/BSc/Graduate Diploma/MSc in Occupational Therapy.
• Active HCPC Registration and documented evidence of CPD (maintained portfolio).

Experience

• Significant experience of clinical assessment and intervention as an autonomous occupational therapist using standardised and non-standardised assessment tools. Knowledge of current best practice in paediatric OT and evidence of its application in assessment planning, implementing and evaluating treatment. Ability to plan and prioritise own workload and work independently. Excellent skills in preparing clearly written reports for use by multiple agencies. Able to communicate sensitive, information to families with empathy. Able to reflect and critically appraise own performance. Excellent skills in planning and delivering training sessions for teachers, parents, carers and colleagues. Excellent skills in providing and implementing effective OT programmes to support children and young peoples participation in daily occupations. Excellent understanding of the principles of clinical governance and how to implement these in practice. Knowledge and experience of child development, neuro-development, childhood occupations and the role of OT for children with a range of disabilities. Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with and the protection of children and young people. Displays commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people.
