Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Midwife to join the Jessop Wing, Pastoral Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. We are looking to recruit an inspirational and highly motivated Midwife with proven skills and abilities.

The post holder will provide pastoral care and be the point of contact for newly qualified midwives, internationally recruited midwives and maternity services workers (MSWs) working as part of a collaborative network with other specialist midwives and members of the senior midwifery management team. They will support the retention of midwives by working alongside all new starters in clinical practice to enhance confidence, competence and the acquisition of new skills. The post holder will work with Professional Development Midwives, Professional Midwifery Advocates and core midwives in the delivery of care and the implementation of the practice development agenda for qualified and unqualified staff in Maternity Services.

If you are an exceptional communicator with strong relationship-building skills, you will help develop relationships across the region to collaborate with regional workforce and retention teams to inform and evaluate the national retention offer for midwives and maternity support workers. You will develop mechanisms for identifying and addressing individual needs and actively promote a culture of civility in the workplace.

Responsibilities
  • Provide pastoral support to staff, including overseas midwives, and work closely with the organisational international nursing recruitment team as required.
  • Play a key role in the recruitment of midwives and maternity support workers, including internationally educated midwives.
  • Provide or signpost to resources that promote job satisfaction and retention, including pastoral care, learning support and career development.
  • Offer flexible and accessible support to colleagues and promote cultural understanding within the maternity department and wider organisation.
  • Use and analyse staff feedback to target interventions; monitor impact on staff experience indicators including local leaver rates.
  • Comply with UK Government Skilled Worker sponsorship rules and related concessions; be aware of eligibility requirements for sponsorship.
  • Read attached guidance on using AI technology and declare that information in the application is true and complete.
  • When applying via NHS Jobs, you will be redirected to the Trac recruitment system; follow the process to create and submit your application and communicate via Trac.
  • Understand that information may be transferred from Trac to ESR/IAT upon appointment, and ensure you check email communications (including junk/spam folders) for updates.
