A leading global media company seeks an Assistant Producer / Field Director in Bristol for an exciting wildlife programming project. CONTRACT TYPE : Fixed Term 6 months

DEPARTMENT : BBC Studios NHU

LOCATION : Bridgewater House Bristol

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE : 37500 - 50000 depending on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

START DATE : early October 2025

WORKING PATTERN : Hybrid. A minimum 3-4 days per week in the office with extensive periods working on location internationally.

Interviews are expected to be held late September 2025.

ABOUT BBC STUDIOS NHU

BBC Studios Natural History Unit (NHU) is the leading producer of wildlife programming creating award-winning content with a world class reputation.

Our output ranges from ambitious landmarks (Planet Earth III and Dynasties) to childrens programming (Deadly Dinosaurs and Andys Adventures) as well as ground‑breaking travel adventure formatted presenter lead and event programming such as Prehistoric Planet for Apple TV and the BAFTA winning Springwatch for the BBC.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

After the success of The Green Planet BBC Studios NHU is embarking on a follow up series looking at the extraordinary and complex relationships between plants and animals.

We are looking for an Assistant Producer / Field Director enthusiastic about the subject matter to work on this major project.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

You will need to be highly creative and organised with excellent storytelling skills visual flair and the ability to take an innovative and imaginative approach to delivering outstanding content.

In particular we require someone who has experience in directing timelapse photography and who has an understanding and experience of advanced motion control systems.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Evidence of strong directorial skills visual flair and the ability to identify key story lines with strong emotionally engaging character led storytelling with at least one credit on a blue chip behavioural series for a television client.
  • Lead Director on more than 5 international natural history shoots.
  • Experience of setting up and directing timelapse sequences on location and in studio environments including being responsible for safety on location and a proven understanding of advanced motion control systems and visualisation techniques.
  • Able to be in the field primarily internationally for extended periods of time of up to 6 weeks.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  • A passion and knowledge for botany.
  • Proven experience working on projects with key stakeholders and ability to manage upwards.
  • Understanding of duty of care with regard to individuals wellbeing and production Health & Safety issues.
  • The ability to work well in teams sharing information and knowledge and working closely with the producers and researchers in the team.
