SEND Teacher - Autism Base (Secondary Special Needs School)

Tempest are working in partnership with a dedicated Secondary Special Needs School in Stockport to recruit an experienced SEND Teacher for their specialist Autism Base. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive environment and make a meaningful impact on young people with complex needs.

About the Role

You will be leading a small, well-staffed class of 8-12 students, aged 11-18, all with Autism and additional learning needs. Pupils in this class are currently working at Year 3 to Year 7 levels, and may at times become disregarded in the classroom.
The school promotes a calm, structured approach and offers excellent support from a strong team of Teaching Assistants-a minimum of 2 TAs per class, with some groups having up to 4, depending on individual needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons (support provided)
  • Creating a safe, nurturing and consistent learning environment
  • Managing behaviour using positive support strategies
  • Working closely with support staff and the wider SEND team
  • Differentiating learning to meet a wide range of abilities
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • PGCE or QTS preferred
  • Unqualified teachers considered where strong SEND classroom experience is demonstrated
  • Experience working with children with Autism and additional needs
  • Strong behaviour-management and de-escalation skills
  • A calm, resilient approach and an ability to build positive relationships
  • DBS on the Update Service (essential)
  • Team Teach or similar training (preferred but not essential)
