Job summary

Special Care Baby Unit Nurse

Band 5 Special Care Baby Unit Nurse - 24 hours - WCH

As a Band 5 nurse you are expected to provide family centred developmentally appropriate care to preterm and unwell babies. You will be required to work towards achieving your Qualification in Speciality of the nursing care of neonates, you will learn to manage the care, of special care, high dependency and stabilisation and transfer of babies requiring intensive care treatment. You will also be required to complete your Newborn Life Support training and complete Family and Infant Neurodevelopment Education (FINE) training. There is an expectation that you support students on the ward and are able to liaise effectively with the Multidisciplinary Team.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to manage and provide all aspects of patient care, assessing care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for the babies and their families. You need to be able to liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) with family centred care as a basic principle of service provision. The trust operates an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and you will be expected to practice according to its principles as well as in accordance with the NMC code of conduct, including the NMC record keeping guideline.
