LOCATION: London - Hybrid

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £80,000-£90,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Flexible working will be discussed during the offer stage.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join the BBC to lead enterprise‑scale Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness and rollout. As Solution Lead, you’ll architect the guardrails—Purview data lifecycle, sensitivity labelling, DLP, access and auditing—that make AI assistance safe and effective across Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams. You’ll reduce oversharing risk, prove readiness with actionable reporting, and optimise licensing, partnering across editorial, production, and corporate teams to unlock secure, compliant productivity gains at global scale.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Join a collaborative, mission‑driven team safeguarding the BBC’s content and audiences at global scale. You’ll shape Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption end‑to‑end—defining guardrails with Purview, tuning labels/DLP, and proving readiness with analytics—alongside senior stakeholders. Expect autonomy, complex challenges, and clear impact: reducing oversharing risk while unlocking AI‑driven productivity. We invest in your growth with certification support, mentoring, labs, and access to Microsoft partnerships and communities, within an inclusive culture that values curiosity, pragmatism, and craft.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Strategy, stakeholder engagement, and cross‑M365 subject‑matter expertise: Own the enterprise Copilot strategy and governance; act as the hands‑on technical SME for business units on integrations, data flows, Graph connectors and Copilot plug‑ins; conduct briefings and design clinics; remain current with Copilot/M365 innovations and advise on roadmap implications.
  • Enterprise‑scale information protection for Copilot: Design and deliver Microsoft Purview retention/records, sensitivity labelling (auto/mandatory), and DLP across Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams; ensure Copilot‑created content consistently inherits labels and watermarks; drive adoption and measurable risk reduction.
  • Data classification and governance design: Co‑create an organisation‑wide data taxonomy with business stakeholders and translate it into technical controls (access, auditing, and joiners‑movers‑leavers processes), with Entra ID integration where appropriate.
  • Grounding and data‑access control: Configure Restricted SharePoint Search; define Microsoft Search/Graph index scopes; govern and approve Graph connectors and Copilot plug‑ins; validate ACL and label honouring end‑to‑end; identify and remediate oversharing across sites and links.
  • Readiness, risk, and safety: Lead data hygiene and oversharing remediation; run sandbox/pilot testing and prompt‑injection/jailbreak tests; define exception processes and a kill switch; confirm data residency and sovereignty alignment prior to wider enablement.
  • Telemetry, automation, and evidence: Enable Purview Audit and Copilot analytics; build KQL/Log Analytics/Power BI dashboards and custom reports; maintain configuration‑as‑code baselines with drift detection to evidence readiness and ongoing compliance.
  • Licensing and value optimisation: Advise on Microsoft 365/E5 compliance and Copilot licensing options and trade‑offs; recommend cost‑effective combinations and preparatory controls to reduce risk and enable a secure, well‑governed Copilot deployment.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Deep, demonstrable understanding of Microsoft 365 (Office 365) and the wider Microsoft cloud ecosystem, with specific expertise in planning and delivering Microsoft 365 Copilot at enterprise scale; able to advise the business on integrations, data flows, and deployment options.
  • Enterprise‑scale delivery of Microsoft Purview compliance: end‑to‑end design and rollout of Records/Data Lifecycle, sensitivity labelling (auto/mandatory), and DLP across Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams, ensuring Copilot‑created content inherits labels and watermarks.
  • Hands‑on configuration and tuning of retention, sensitivity labelling, and DLP policies with measurable adoption and risk‑reduction outcomes, using automation and repeatable deployment approaches to scale across a large organisation.
  • Proven stakeholder leadership in complex enterprises: translate legal/regulatory and business needs into actionable Copilot roadmaps, governance controls, and enablement phases; communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Data classification taxonomy and governance design: co‑develop the taxonomy with business teams and translate it into technical controls (access, auditing, and joiners‑movers‑leavers) with Microsoft Entra ID integration, aligned to Copilot grounding and least‑privilege access.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Risk identification, remediation, and reporting across Microsoft 365: assess and remediate oversharing and data exposure; produce analytics and telemetry to evidence readiness for secure Copilot deployment and to support ongoing compliance.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset: able to assess large organisations, determine the right approach, and work pragmatically within the Microsoft ecosystem to deliver secure, automated, and well‑governed outcomes.
  • Recognised certifications that evidence capability in the Microsoft ecosystem (e.g., SC‑400, SC‑100/Cybersecurity Architect Expert, AZ‑500, AZ‑305, Microsoft 365 Administrator/Enterprise).
  • Strong grasp of Microsoft 365/E5 compliance licensing, with the ability to recommend cost‑effective options and plan for Copilot prerequisites.
  • Experience defining and embedding governance guardrails for AI/Copilot to minimise oversharing and align with legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements.
