  • Strong background in TDD, BDD, CI/CD practices.
  • Understanding of relational databases.

The Opportunity

London office hybrid. Open to UK remote for the correct calibre of candidate.

We’re seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager with a FinTech background to lead a small team in building and scaling the platform that powers our industry‑leading payment engine moving hundreds of millions daily.

You’ll balance hands‑on technical leadership with people management, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality code supporting career growth for your engineers and driving product performance, scalability and reliability.

What you’ll do
  • Lead and support the daily activities of a small engineering team.
  • Set priorities, track success against goals and ensure delivery to high standards.
  • Provide strong technical input on projects and guide the team in pragmatic, scalable solutions.
  • Write and review high‑quality, testable, secure and maintainable code.
  • Solve complex problems where analysis requires in‑depth evaluation of multiple factors.
  • Manage time estimates, risks and progress across projects.
  • Drive improvements across all phases of the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, stakeholders and teams across engineering, product and design.
  • Support recruitment and help attract top engineering talent.
  • Mentor and grow team members, fostering ownership and accountability.
  • Ensure scalability, performance and reliability remain at the heart of what we deliver.
Qualifications
  • 8 years experience in web application development.
  • 2 years experience managing and developing engineering teams.
  • Proven experience with scalable, performant and reliable distributed systems.
  • Strong background in TDD, BDD, CI / CD practices.
  • Understanding of relational databases.
  • Strong fundamentals in object‑oriented design.
  • Track record of project management and successful delivery.
  • Excellent collaboration skills across functions (QA, Product, SRE).
  • Fluent in English.
  • FinTech or payments industry experience is a plus.
