Qualifications

About The Role

We are seeking Spotters to join our team on a seasonal basis during 2026. In this role, you will lead and coordinate guest snorkelling activities, including interactions with whale sharks and humpback whales, while ensuring safety and confidence through strict adherence to protocols and procedures.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Carry out tour pre-departure tasks including vehicle inspections, coordinate guest pickups, assist with loading equipment onto the tender and vessel and packing the necessary food and beverage provisions for the day
  • Follow all directives from the Skipper to ensure the safe operation of the tender and main vessel
  • Manage guest coordination at the jetty, assist with tender transfers and ensure safe loading and unloading procedures
  • Keep guests informed and engaged throughout the day, including commentary, educational information and general interaction/information about their tour
  • Assist with serving meals and refreshments, and help to maintain a welcoming, professional atmosphere onboard
  • Distribute and fit required snorkel gear and equipment for each guest
  • Guide and supervise guests during snorkel activities in the water, ensuring safety and group management during wildlife interactions
  • Provide clear, calm communication and support to less confident swimmers
  • Maintain open communication with the Skipper regarding guest readiness, safety observations and wildlife sightings
  • Support end of day tasks including cleaning and preparing the vessel and equipment after each tour, carrying out refuelling and cleaning company vehicles, restocking provisions and completing relevant checklists
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of crew as and when required
  • Promote a strong safety culture by promptly reporting hazards and incidents
About You

You will be passionate about marine tourism and committed to delivering unforgettable guest experiences. You will have strong decision-making skills with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset, able to work calmly in fast-paced environments as well as be able to pivot quickly in changing conditions or priorities. You will be an effective team player, who is reliable, self-motivated with a commitment to continuous improvement and safety. You will be confident with public speaking and will be a strong swimmer also capable of responding to in‑water emergencies if necessary.

To be considered for this role you will have:
  • Experience in a comparable guiding role within marine tourism
  • A current Dive Master certification
  • A current First Aid and CPR certificate
  • A current Driver’s License with LR endorsement (currently hold or be willing to obtain)
  • Passenger Transport Driver (PTD) authorisation (currently hold or be willing to obtain)
  • WA Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate (currently hold or be willing to obtain)
  • Exmouth Shire Food Handling certificate (currently hold or be willing to obtain)

Lastly, an AMSA issued marine qualification such as STCW, CoST, or GPH will be considered highly desirable for the role, as would a background in marine biology or environmental science.
