Position Overview

Sixth Form SEND Teacher – Autism & Complex Needs – Special School – Tower Hamlets

£170–£230/day (depending on experience)

Full‑time, long‑term start in February.

Axcis are proud to be working with a highly regarded special school in Tower Hamlets that supports children and young people with autism and complex learning needs.

The school is seeking an experienced and passionate Sixth Form SEND Teacher to join their post‑16 team, starting full time after February half term, with a handover and transition day during the week commencing 9th February. This is a specialist post‑16 provision designed to prepare young people for adulthood through functional learning, communication development and independence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading a Sixth Form class of autistic learners with complex communication and sensory needs.
  • Delivering a functional, real‑world curriculum focused on independence, life skills and communication.
  • Using symbols, visuals and core boards to support expressive and receptive communication.
  • Planning and delivering practical learning experiences, including community access and real‑life scenarios.
  • Working closely with a large, experienced support team to ensure consistency and high‑quality provision.
  • Tracking progress using MAPP and contributing to accredited outcomes through ASDAN.
  • Working collaboratively with families and professionals, including report writing and reviews.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • QTS / QTLS (or equivalent), with special school experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience supporting autistic, non‑verbal and sensory learners.
  • Confidence delivering practical, functional and communication‑focused teaching.
  • Strong leadership skills to guide a large classroom team.
  • Resilience, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for preparing young people for adulthood.
  • Commitment to full‑time work and the wider responsibilities of a classroom practitioner.
