About the Role
As a Site Software Commissioning Engineer, you'll be involved in the full lifecycle of automation projects - from initial estimation and design, through to on-site commissioning, testing, optimisation, and customer handover. You'll play a hands-on role in ensuring our machinery performs flawlessly in the field.
Responsibilities
- Final onsite commissioning of software developed in-house (alone or with a commissioning team)
- Internal support and training for staff across departments on PLC/HMI/SCADA systems
- Conducting on-site customer demonstrations and trial runs
- Supporting pre-order project research and cost estimation with cross-functional teams
- Writing control documents such as testing schedules and operator manuals
- Completing all required project/task paperwork accurately and timely
- Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and P&IDs
- Hardware integration and testing, including inter-device communication
- Designing and programming PLC, HMI, and control systems from scratch (Beijer, Mitsubishi, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron)
- Software optimisation and HMI refinement following formal change processes
- Developing interfaces between PLC systems and office-based recipe/reporting applications
- Modifying and updating existing systems for upgraded or repeated projects
- Performing full electrical commissioning of systems both in-house and on-site
- Troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues, including panel modifications
- Providing customer training for correct system operation
- Handling customer support and queries during and post-warranty
- Taking full ownership of commissioning tasks or contributing as part of a team
- Providing emergency breakdown support and ad hoc engineering assistance as needed
- Supporting any other reasonable requests made by the company or management
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Strong experience programming PLCs, HMIs, and drives - including systems from:
- Beijer, Mitsubishi, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron
- Proven background in industrial automation, ideally within food manufacturing machinery
- Ability to program control systems from scratch and integrate hardware/software interfaces
- Full understanding of electrical schematics and system commissioning workflows
- Ability to travel frequently to customer sites, including international locations
Preferred Electrical Qualifications (one or more of the following):
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical
- MOET Level 3 or equivalent industry certification
