Job summary

A leading technology consultancy in the UK is seeking a skilled Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to lead the migration of an existing on-prem HPC solution to the cloud. This pivotal role will enhance the reliability and performance of cloud infrastructure, utilizing Azure and AWS. Responsibilities include developing automation scripts, collaborating with teams, and proactively addressing system performance issues. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in cloud-native architectures and a strong background in IT infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in SRE, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure roles.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures across Azure and AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with US teams to build and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline operations.
  • Monitor system performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively.

Job description

Contract Opportunity : Site Reliability Engineer (Azure & AWS)

Location : UK (Fully Remote)

Rate : £550 / day (Inside IR35)

Contract Length : 12 Months Initally

The client is looking for a highly skilled Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with deep experience across primarily Azure and preferably AWS to take a lead role in migrating an existing on-prem HPC solution into the Cloud . You’ll be responsible for enhancing reliability, scalability, and performance through automation, software engineering principles, and proactive system optimisation.

This role will be pivotal in bridging development and operations , applying an engineering mindset to infrastructure and operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with US teams and adapt existing solutions to build and maintain scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure in Azure and AWS for the UK entity.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline operational work such as log analysis, environment testing, and incident response.
  • Partner closely with development and operations teams to ensure smooth deployment and performance of applications and services.
  • Monitor system performance and availability, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact users.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to infrastructure to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
  • Drive cost optimisation, right-sizing, automation, and governance through tagging strategies and budget alerting.
  • Produce documentation and deliver knowledge transfer / training to internal teams.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures across Azure and AWS , including experience with AKS / EKS and automation.
  • Extensive on premise to Azure Migration Experience
  • Deep knowledge of Linux
  • Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code , ideally Terraform .
  • Familiarity with CI / CD pipelines , Docker / Kubernetes , and monitoring / observability tooling.
  • Knowledge of data processing workflows and configuration design.
  • Solid experience with IT infrastructure, reliability, and monitoring systems.
Education & Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT , or a related field.
  • 5+ years in SRE, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure roles.
