Astute's Power Team is exclusively partnered with our client to recruit for a Shift Operations Technician to join their Energy from Waste Power Station in Coventry, West Midlands.

Responsibilities and duties
  • Using a DCS/SCADA system you will be required to start, stop and monitor turbines, boilers, pumps, water treatment plant and more.
  • Ensuring the plant is operating within its parameters whilst complying with strict HSE rules and regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Performing plant walk round and daily checks to ensure equipment is operating correctly and efficiently.
  • Monitoring of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and performing corrective adjustments to the process when required.
  • Providing technical supervision and assistance where necessary for company and contract staff.
  • Working within the company Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems.
Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally be apprentice trained, with an NVQ Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • A formal Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH will be advantageous but not a necessity.
Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge
  • Prior experience working in heavy process engineering environments such as Power (EfW, CCGT, Coal, Biomass, CHP), Petrochemicals, Refineries, Paper Mills, etc.
  • This role could also be suitable for Royal/Merchant Navy Marine Engineers looking to transition into the Power Generation industry.
  • Knowledge and experience working with steam generation equipment.
  • Extensive experience working with SCADA/DCS systems.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and cover for shift staff in times of absence on short notice.
