Job summary

A civil engineering company is seeking a SHEQT Advisor to ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards across projects nationwide. The role involves developing training programs, conducting inspections, and fostering strong relationships within the team. Ideal candidates will possess a NEBOSH Construction Certificate and strong IT skills. This position requires hands-on involvement and commitment to cultural safety initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Construction, Engineering is desirable.
  • Knowledge of TEEPs and TSTS.
  • Environmental qualification such as IEMA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support project management teams in maintaining SHEQ standards.
  • Conduct inspections for SHEQ compliance.
  • Manage contractors and ensure HSEQ standards are followed.

Job description

Job title: SHEQT Advisor

Function: SHEQT

Job reports to: Group SHEQT Manager

Location: Orsett/nationwide

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to develop and ensure compliance with colleagues to implement our policies and procedures, ensuring a consistent and practical approach is maintained and compliance is achieved.

You will be developing and providing toolbox talks and pre‑start briefings for staff, producing reports and action plans and providing expert Health and Safety, Environmental & Quality advice. This is a hands‑on role.

Site Hours: 07:30am to 18:00pm Monday to Friday

Works will be UK wide.

You will be responsible for ensuring that as well as the business needs are met we also meet all client requirements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Supporting the project management teams in establishing and maintaining the highest Health, Safety & Environmental standards across the Project(s).
  • Conducting detailed and thorough inspections, focusing on SHEQ compliance, company and client management systems and best practice.
  • Ensuring plant and materials across the projects are maintained i.e. PUWER, LOLER, RAMS, CoSHH, FIRE, etc. and are suitably risk managed.
  • Building engagement and consistency with the workforce, embedding the groups LIFE behaviour program.
  • A team player, supporting and participating in operations planning and delivery
  • Management of contractors and ensuring HSEQ standards are adhered to.
  • Undertake equipment inspections, as required
  • Deliver accredited and bespoke training programmes
  • Incident Investigations
  • Proactive in producing and communicating educational material
Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
  • Minimum of a NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • CSCS card aligned to Job Role
  • Experience and up to date knowledge of RC Frameworks and Ground Works
  • Knowledge and experience in Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis
  • Excellent IT skills including administration knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email
  • Proven ability to foster strong, working relationships
  • Able to manage time, ensuring deadlines are met
Desirable
  • Work experience gained in Construction, Engineering
  • TEEPs and TSTS
  • IEMA Environmental Qualification
  • Temporary Works Co‑ordinator
  • Fire Risk Assessor
  • CoSHH Assessor
  • Lifting experience i.e. Cranes
  • Behavioural Safety
  • Trainer / Teaching qualification
