A local council in Hemel Hempstead is seeking a full-time Coach to provide transition coaching for young people with SEND. The successful candidate will engage with college staff and local organisations to support youth in finding positive activities, volunteering, and employment. Essential qualifications include experience working with young people with additional needs, excellent communication skills, and a valid driving licence. This role offers variety and requires a DBS check.
The Services for Young People (SfYP) Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Team provides a range of specialist services for young people (aged 13-25) with additional needs/SEND. This involves providing careers, information, advice, and guidance to support them in making positive decisions about their futures; maintenance of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) for those aged 16+ in further education and support to find paid employment or other positive activities. In Hertfordshire, we have developed the 'My Future Programme', which has been designed to support young people with EHCPs to progress through education, out of college and into adulthood. The programme is delivered by SfYP in partnership with all four Hertfordshire colleges.
We are currently looking to recruit a full‑time Coach, to work with the colleges in the South & West of the county. The key role of the Coach is to provide transition coaching assistance to young people with SEND who are moving on from college, into the next phase of their lives, working closely with parents/carers.
If you want a job with variety, then this role is for you, as no two days are the same. The job combines providing transition support for young people with marketing them to employers, community providers and third sector organisations. This role has been identified as requiring a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
Driving required – You will need to have the ability to drive and/or travel around Hertfordshire, either using your own mode of transport or a company car to travel to other locations.
English Fluency – The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. For those whose language is a signed language the provision of a sign language interpreter who speaks English to the necessary standard of fluency will be required.
