Job Description

Job Summary: The marina service technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining boats and marina equipment, including engines, electrical systems, plumbing, and hulls. This position requires hands-on technical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of marine systems. The ideal candidate will ensure customer satisfaction by performing high-quality work efficiently and safely.

Work Environment: Mostly outdoors/marina-based, with work occurring in all weather conditions. May include time in the service shop, dry dock, or on the water.

Compensation: $17-35 per hour based on experience. May include training and certification opportunities. Ideally, the candidate will come into the role with minimal need for basic training.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing inboard/outboard engines (gas and diesel)
  2. Performing maintenance on all marine systems
  3. Installing new equipment such as batteries, navigation systems, bilge pumps, etc.
  4. Conducting seasonal prep and winterization of boats
  5. Maintaining accurate records of work performed, parts used, and customer interactions
  6. Keeping work areas clean and adhering to safety standards and environmental regulations
  7. Operating forklifts, trailers, and other equipment to launch or haul boats as needed

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of:

  • Customer service
  • Computers
  • Mathematics
  • Reading, writing, and speaking English

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; technical/vocational training in marine mechanics
  • 2+ years experience in marine repair or a related field
  • Knowledge of Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Volvo Penta, or similar marine engine systems is a plus
  • Ability to read technical manuals and interpret diagnostic codes
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license; boating license and boating experience are a plus
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds; navigate small spaces; walk on boats, floating docks/ramps as required
  • Ability to move between tasks quickly without sacrificing quality
