Job description

Have you got a passion for Problem Solving? Technical work? Fault Finding? Repairs? Join our southeastern Engineering team as a Service Engineer within the Hoist team at our Slade Green Depot.

What you’ll do
  • Undertake rolling‑stock modifications, heavy overhaul and maintenance work packages and bespoke workstreams.
  • Carrying out heavy overhauls and modifications, examination work, fault finding and testing.
  • Involve in unit modification trials, first‑in‑class delivery of projects and work packages.
  • Work safely and effectively within the team to meet all required standards and specifications.
  • Report directly to the HOIST Manager and work within a dedicated team with a flexible working pattern based on project team requirements.
Qualifications
  • Experienced in an engineering discipline (skilled mechanical and/or electrical work).
  • Experience working with a trade background such as Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, etc.
  • Ability to carry out first‑level fault finding and follow schematics and diagrams.
  • Physically fit and able to pass a medical to engineering standard.
  • Previous rolling‑stock maintenance experience is desirable.
  • Customer focus.
  • All successful candidates must undertake and pass a full safety‑critical medical before formal offer.
Other important information
  • All successful applicants will need to pass a Personal Track Safety course or a Depot Track Safety course (full training provided).
  • A right to work verification, a basic criminal record check, pre‑employment medical assessment and satisfactory references are required.
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • Shifts have set start and end times; having your own transport is best.
  • Applicants who were not successful in a similar role at Southern must wait six months before applying again.
