Overview

Job Title: Senior Planning Consultant
Location: Taunton, Somerset (Hybrid Working)

I'm recruiting for a well-established environmental and planning consultancy based in the South West. They're looking to appoint a Senior Planning Consultant to support a growing pipeline of complex and high-impact environmental, waste & water and renewable energy projects across the UK.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a motivated professional with experience in environmental planning to join a respected and expanding team. The role will appeal to those seeking diverse project exposure, increased responsibility, and the chance to make a visible impact in a collaborative consultancy environment.

About the Role

You'll join a multi-disciplinary team that delivers support on everything from single planning issues to full project management of complex schemes. The work covers a wide range of environmental and planning services, including:

  • Planning policy advice
  • Preparation and submission of planning applications
  • Pre-application negotiation and master planning
  • Sustainability and environmental impact assessments
  • Waste, water and renewable energy-related planning
Responsibilities

As a Senior Planning Consultant, you will lead and manage environmental-based development projects, coordinate submissions, and act as a key client contact. You'll also provide expert guidance across internal teams and help support the professional development of junior colleagues.

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc/MSc in Town Planning, Estate Management, Environmental or related fields
  • Chartered or working toward MRTPI or similar
  • Proven experience in consultancy, regulation, or public sector environments (ideally 5 years+)
  • A strong track record in managing and delivering environmental development projects
  • Working knowledge of environmental planning legislation and procedures
  • Experience conducting desk-based research and site-based assessments
