Overview

Senior Technician (17/98) – Dumfries

£35,535 - £38,031

Based at Roads Service operational depot in Dumfries, you will assist and provide support to Senior Roads officers, technical staff and operational staff, with the delivery of road maintenance activities and capital investment projects as well as supporting other sections within the Roads Service.

Responsibilities
  • Assist and provide support to Senior Roads officers, technical staff and operational staff, with the delivery of road maintenance activities and capital investment projects as well as supporting other sections within the Roads Service.
  • You should have a proven track record and/or sound knowledge of road maintenance activities, development control/construction consents and legislation relative to a Roads Authority's obligations for the management and maintenance of the road network.
  • You should also have experience in contract preparation and project management.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation, Quality Management Systems, Construction Consents, Roads Safety Inspections, Traffic Management, Roads Maintenance Activities and Local Government (essential or desirable as described).
  • Experience of working in an office environment is essential and you must be computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Candidates should have a minimum qualification to HNC level in Civil Engineering (or equivalent); NVQ Construction H&S is desirable and a NRSWA Supervisors accreditation is also desirable. Qualification to IEng level and NRSWA Supervisors accreditation are desirable.
Person Specification
  • You must be flexible, self-motivated, able to work under pressure to deadlines, possess good organisational skills and have the confidence to deal with staff, the public and contractors.
  • You should be a team player with good oral/written communication skills.
  • A current full driving licence is essential.
  • A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
