Job description

Job Description

Saab Inc., Autonomous and Undersea Systems Division

We are seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Staff Electrical Engineer to support our growing team working on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). This role covers a wide range of electrical engineering topics and is ideal for someone interested in diverse design challenges. Our systems include AC power (shore and charging equipment), DC power (battery systems and conversion), sensor integration, and electromechanical components (propulsion, motors, servos, actuators). This is a hands-on position with opportunities to build, test, and integrate your designs. The role can initially be remote or hybrid, with eventual placement at our new Bristol, RI facility opening in early 2026.

The position involves leading, designing, developing, and modifying various electrical systems in subsea applications, including AC, DC, linear, analog, digital, acoustic, and sensor designs. You will lead design approaches, analyze data, conduct tests, and make informed decisions. Responsibilities also include component selection, supporting interdisciplinary teams, and guiding system-level decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical engineering support and provide guidance for AUV/ROV systems, presenting technical concepts on product design and performance.
  • Coordinate with Systems, Software, Mechanical, Quality, and Manufacturing teams in designing AUV/ROV systems.
  • Research and develop new circuit card designs and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Conduct functional analysis, evaluation, and optimization of product designs.
  • Present technical results to internal and external stakeholders, tailoring content to the audience.
  • Support key subcontractors and suppliers with technical expertise.
  • Create and maintain power and endurance budgets throughout development phases.
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing processes.
  • Lead design verification efforts.
  • Perform cost/benefit analyses and feasibility studies.
  • Lead failure analysis of hardware related to electrical systems.
  • Contribute to system-level design considerations and trade-offs across disciplines.
Compensation Range

$124,200 - $161,500. This is a general guideline; actual offers will consider factors such as role responsibilities, location, market conditions, experience, and education.

Skills and Experience
Required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 15+ or 13+ years of experience, respectively.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard electrical design tools (Altium, SPICE, MATLAB).
  • Experience in product development for underwater vehicles and devices.
  • Proven ability to resolve design and development issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Experience with EV, CAM, and IMS development and tracking.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. DoD SECRET clearance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%, domestically and internationally.
  • Understanding requirements traceability in a model-based systems engineering environment.
Desired
  • Prior DoD industry experience.
  • Experience with electronics in wet and subsea environments.
  • Knowledge of PCB design, MIL standards, EMI/EMC standards, and environmental testing.
  • Ability to read and create schematics, wiring diagrams, and data sheets.
Additional Information

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and may be subject to security investigations. Saab offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, 401(k), tuition and student loan assistance, wellness programs, and employee stock purchase plans.
