Job description

As an Engineering Team Manager, you will lead and inspire a team of talented engineers, driving innovation and excellence in our projects. This role is crucial in ensuring the successful delivery of high‑quality software and platforms that make a real impact on our customers, businesses and communities. You’ll be part of a dynamic team that values collaboration, continuous learning and the pursuit of excellence.

Within the Homes Platform we’re responsible for the UK’s biggest mortgage book. We are on a journey to transform our core technology and the technical capabilities of our colleagues. The Digital lab is responsible for products that fully align to modern engineering standards—hosted on Azure cloud infrastructure, using a micro‑service architecture, with JavaScript and TypeScript built applications using React and Node.js. Over the last two years we have launched new digital journeys on modern JavaScript frameworks, developed detailed suites of customer journey and analytics, transitioned workloads onto the Cloud and incrementally modernised and simplified our technology estate.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of the product roadmap.
  • Take hands‑on ownership for unblocking technical challenges and proving out new patterns and technical solutions ready for full use within the team.
  • Act as a player‑coach, building others by developing and mentoring engineers on how to achieve the team and personal goals.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Ensure the team is equipped with the necessary tools and resources to succeed.
Requirements
  • Strong technical background in full‑stack JavaScript/TypeScript development (ideally Node and React).
  • Proven experience in leading, coaching and managing engineering teams, including offshore.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and demonstrate a passion for solving real‑world problems with technology.
  • Experience designing technology solutions that are reliable, scalable and performant.
Additional Experience
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (ideally Azure) and source control platforms (such as GHE).
  • Familiarity with DevOps tooling, including continuous integration pipelines and containerisation.
