Are you a nurturing, enthusiastic childcare professional who is ready to make a difference in little lives? We’re looking for a dedicated Senior Room Practitioner to join our warm and welcoming team at GOSH Staff Day Nursery.

The nursery is situated in a quiet cul‑de‑sac on Long Yard, with numerous parks and outdoor provisions available for the children to visit daily.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead a team of nursery nurses/assistants to provide a fun, enabling environment for children to learn and thrive.
  • Guide and mentor a team of early years practitioners to foster a positive team culture within the room and nursery setting.
  • Act as a key worker to name children, carrying out observations and developmental reports for each child and liaising with parents regularly.
  • Work in partnership with the team and with parents to act as a positive and professional role model to colleagues and children.

To be considered for the role you will need to have:

A minimum Childcare Level 3 qualification and experience of a room leader role in a busy nursery environment covering the age range 3 months – 5 years, together with excellent knowledge of child development and current practices.

Experience/Knowledge
  • Extensive experience of working as a key person with children aged 0‑5 years in a nursery setting.
  • Experience of effective planning and observation in a nursery setting (focused activities).
  • Knowledge of childcare development and awareness of children's needs.
  • Knowledge of Development matters and EYFS.
  • Experience of operating in a senior role e.g. Lead nursery nurse/senior/room leader in a nursery.
Skills/Abilities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instruction and to work under own initiative as necessary.
  • Ability to adapt to meet the needs of the service within a team environment.
  • Attendance at monthly staff meetings outside normal hours.
