The VacancyThe roleThis Senior Research Engineer position will deliver a key technical leadership role within the Additive Manufacturing Department at the MTC, providing technical oversight and supporting strategic alignment, project scoping, technical proposal writing and, delivery of a critical portfolio of projects with two of MTC's biggest customers.
In addition, the successful candidate will assume the role of Polymer & Ceramic AM Team Lead' within the wider Additive Manufacturing (AM) team at the MTC. Reporting into the AM Department Resource Manager, this role will work in parallel with our 'Metal AM Team Lead' to manage a team of engineers, supporting their professional development and wellbeing, and contributing towards the team strategy.
Main Responsibilities:- Technical leadership of critical project portfolios to high quality, on time and on budget.
- Technical oversight of strategic alignment, project pipeline and technical business development with key MTC customers.
- Leadership and management of Polymer & Ceramic AM team.
- Strategic deployment of Polymer & Ceramic engineers onto AM project portfolio
- Coaching and mentoring
- Objective setting and development planning
- Supporting wellbeing
Person SpecificationEssential Skills/Qualifications/Experience- Significant background and experience (6+ years) conducting research with/on Polymer & Ceramic Additive Manufacturing processes.
- Advanced understanding of vat photo polymerisation, material extrusion and powder bed fusion based Polymer & Ceramic AM processes and associated materials.
- Experience leading and managing teams of 3+ engineers.
- Experience supporting professional development of engineers including coaching/mentoring, objectives setting, and training plan development.
- Technical leadership of large portfolios of project work (individual large projects or a collection of smaller projects).
- Experience working closely with customers to capture requirements, develop project scopes and write technical proposals.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience- Experience working with AM technologies in the Defence sector
