Senior Quantity Surveyor | Major UK Infrastructure Programme

A leading commercial consultancy requires a Senior Quantity Surveyor to deliver commercial leadership on a Tier 1 main contractor's high-value infrastructure programme. This strategic site‑based role in West Ruislip offers direct influence over contractual outcomes, cost performance, and commercial strategy within a complex civil engineering environment. Immediate requirement to replace existing resource.

Role Overview

The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will assume full commercial ownership of allocated post‑contract work packages, ensuring robust financial control and contractual compliance. This is a senior appointment involving the direct line management and mentorship of two Quantity Surveyors and lots of client and stakeholder engagement. Focus is on high‑fidelity cost reporting, aggressive cost avoidance, and definitive final account settlement.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead all post‑contract commercial management across defined work packages.
  • Provide leadership to the commercial team, ensuring consistent governance and contractual application.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of change control, compensation event valuation, entitlement assessments, and prolongation claims under the NEC form of contract.
  • Drive and conclude final account agreements, scrutinising and auditing cost legitimacy across the supply chain.
  • Own the cost control function, producing high‑accuracy cost reports and reliable cost‑to‑complete forecasts.
  • Implement proactive cost avoidance strategies through engagement with contractor commercial teams, methodology reviews, and design proposal assessment.
  • Monitor and control sub‑contractor and supplier commercial performance.
Essential Requirements
  • Extensive experience managing high‑value, complex commercial matters on major civil engineering projects.
  • Proven ability to manage post‑contract obligations, including claims and final accounts, specifically under the NEC contract suite.
  • Demonstrable track record of leading commercial teams and influencing project‑level cost strategy.
  • Expert analytical capability in cost reporting, forecasting, and claims evaluation.
  • Full understanding of project costs to manage reporting effectively.
Desirable Attributes
  • Prior experience in a commercial role directly for a Tier 1 civil engineering contractor.
  • Experience in a consultancy capacity, providing client‑side commercial assurance.
