Job description

AWE is currently recruiting professional individuals with a thorough knowledge of Eddy Current Testing (ET) used within Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT). NDT at AWE is a growing organisation where we welcome candidates from the aerospace, oil and gas, nuclear, rail and military sectors, ideally with an engineering background. We are looking for those individuals who are certified as both Level 2 and Level 3 in ET (EN4179 / PCN / SNT / ASNT / NAS410) to apply. If however, you consider yourself a subject matter expert in eddy current testing, but missing the certification, then we are very much interested in you too!

All training will be provided as well as a career progression supporting NDT qualification to advance your career as a non‑destructive testing professional. Our eddy current inspections include manual and automated scanning using a variety of coil types including array systems. If any of these areas is within your skillset or simply within your ambition to learn, then we welcome your application.

This role will be hands‑on in the testing of warhead products, to inspect, develop, innovate, and validate future inspections and advise on capability that is fit for nuclear warhead inspections. You will be working in a friendly team of similar professionals where we encourage personal growth to truly develop your potential as world class.

Responsibilities
  • Advise the customer with the most suitable NDT techniques to inspect the part.
  • Develop and implement Eddy Current techniques and work instructions.
  • Carry out the necessary support functions to support the Safe Systems of Work associated with NDT activities.
  • Produce or support the team with the delivery of written technical assessments.
  • Engage with the wider team, relevant AWE stakeholders and other functions to enhance inspection techniques.
  • Work to company deadlines and targets.
  • Continuous professional development to maintain formal NDT certification and to enhance current portfolio of NDT qualifications.
Benefits
  • Time to recharge your batteries with 270 hours of annual leave (plus every other Friday off work).
  • Consideration for flexible working arrangements so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know on your application if you wish to work part time.
  • Opportunities for Professional Career Development that include funding for the annual membership of a relevant professional body, access to mentors and training.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and Occupational Health Services.
  • A generous defined contribution Group Personal Pension (we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your own contribution).
  • Life Assurance.
  • Company lift share scheme – reduce your travelling costs and share your journeys to and from work with a colleague.
  • Discounts – access to savings on a wide range of everyday spending.
  • Special Leave Policy including paid time off for volunteering, public service (including reserve forces) and caring for your family.
  • A host of voluntary & core benefits to suit your health and wellbeing – more information available on our careers site.
