Senior/Principal/Associate Civil/Structural Engineer sought at this leading, innovative, large multi‑disciplinary consultancy. The role is based in Manchester.

Overview

Our client is a well‑established international consultancy providing integrated engineering, design, and environmental solutions. They work across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and the built environment, helping clients deliver sustainable and innovative projects. Known for fostering collaboration and technical excellence, this organisation offers a dynamic environment where professionals can contribute to impactful projects that shape communities and support long‑term resilience.

They are seeking a talented and ambitious engineer to join their global multidisciplinary team in Manchester where you’ll lead the structural design of buildings on projects in the energy and industrial sectors. This role includes responsibility for assisting with upskilling other team members to support the development of innovative solutions, ensuring structural integrity, and optimising designs.

The role is primarily office based (with opportunities for hybrid working) and there will be occasional travel to client and project sites required.

Responsibilities
  • Leading and managing structural engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Following FEED/FEL, DED, OE stages and similar project delivery models.
  • Analyse and design of structural systems for energy and industrial facilities, including manufacturing and production buildings, substations, power stations/energy centres and other infrastructure.
  • Conducting structural analysis and detailed design to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Developing engineering solutions that enhance structural performance and optimise costs.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations specific to energy and industrial sectors.
  • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams, including architectural, process equipment engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers.
  • Preparing technical documentation, reports, and proposals.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to, and upskilling, junior engineers.
  • Staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  • Supporting and inputting into business development and tendering activities.
Qualifications & Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Chartered Engineer, with either the IStructE or the ICE.
  • Minimum of 7 years (senior or principal) or 10 years (associate) of industry background in structural engineering, with a specific track record in energy and industrial projects including sub‑station design buildings.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and safety regulations specific to energy and industrial sectors.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles, materials, and construction methods.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software, such as ETABS, TSD, Robot or similar tools.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and analytical abilities.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to multitask.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Technical expertise in structural engineering concepts and practices.
