Overview

JOB TITLE: Senior Planning Officer - Development Management Office
REF: N Northamptonshire RQ1603697
Pay rate: £38.89 per hour PAYE
Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 3 months
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working, Mainly office based, at least 3 days in the office.

The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Senior Development Management Officer with experience either of being responsible for a range of non-major planning applications, or planning policy projects. You will manage and support projects, evidence documents, and policy development through town planning adoption processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake research to build and maintain a strong evidence base for policy.
  • Deliver local plan objectives for specific topics or spatial areas.
  • Maintain broad policy knowledge and develop specialist expertise; prepare briefings.
  • Support communities with neighbourhood planning.
  • Lead/assist in public participation and community engagement activities.
  • Manage databases, monitor trends, and analyse evidence for policy development.
  • Provide policy advice on complex planning applications and corporate projects.
  • Prepare statements, represent the Council at appeals, hearings, and court.
  • Support delivery of special projects as required.
  • Draft commissioning briefs and support consultant procurement.
  • Assist with applying IT and GIS in planning policy processes.

  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification to allow access to Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent)
  • Licentiate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent).
  • Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent). - desirable
  • Demonstration of extended experience either of being responsible for a range of non-major planning applications, or planning policy projects.
  • Experience of using computerised planning systems and GIS.
  • Working knowledge of current planning legislation and practice.
