Overview

Senior Planning Consultant - Manchester. £50,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits. 37 hours per week. Permanent. An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Consultant or Associate Director to join a consultancy. This is a key position responsible for delivering high-quality planning advice across a wide range of projects including residential, commercial, education, healthcare, and employment sectors. The role will involve leading on applications, appraisals, appeals, land promotion, and enforcement matters, whilst playing a pivotal role in business development and client relationship management.

Responsibilities
  • Manage your own caseload, providing expert advice and building long-term client relationships.
  • Prepare and submit complex planning applications and appeals.
  • Attend and represent clients at committees, hearings, and public examinations.
  • Undertake planning appraisals, policy research, and develop planning strategies.
  • Write detailed reports with clear recommendations.
  • Conduct site visits and attend client meetings as required.
  • Contribute to business development through networking, proposals, and identifying opportunities.
  • Support and mentor junior colleagues where appropriate.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Degree in Town Planning or related field with full RTPI membership.
  • Proven post-qualification experience within consultancy or local authority.
  • Track record of managing complex planning projects and leading client accounts.
  • In-depth knowledge of planning policy, legislation, and appeals processes.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience in business development and generating income.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior team members.
