Job summary

A leading NHS trust in the UK is seeking two Band 6 Senior Physiotherapists to join their neuro team at the Clatterbridge Rehabilitation Centre. The roles involve providing specialist assessments and interventions for patients recovering from stroke and other neurological conditions. Successful candidates will possess post-graduate experience in neurological rehabilitation and excellent communication skills. The positions offer 23 hours of work per week with weekend commitments. Training and supervision will be provided by senior staff.

Job Overview

We are very excited to offer two permanent positions in our neuro team for Senior Physiotherapists as part of the rehabilitation service at the Clatterbridge Rehabilitation Centre. The roles are Band 6 working 23 hours per week. This includes weekend working and working across services of rehabilitation, acute neuro, early supported discharge team and neuro outpatients.

The Centre provides rehabilitation services to Wirral residents following a stroke, and we are a spoke for Wirral, East & West Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales for the Cheshire and Mersey Rehabilitation Network.

You will require post‑graduate experience in neurological rehabilitation and relevant experience at Band 5 and/or Band 6 level.

The post holder will provide specialist assessment and intervention for people following stroke, acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions.

We operate an integrated therapy service where occupational therapists and physiotherapists work together to optimise people’s outcomes following onset of neurological pathology. You will require excellent communication skills (including competence utilising supported communication techniques), be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical reasoning and be able to case‑manage patients with complex needs.

You will join an enthusiastic, supportive team with training and supervision from Band 7 staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • To communicate effectively with staff, patients, relatives and carers and other agencies regarding care and treatment in order to co‑ordinate care and to ensure effective and appropriate planning and delivery of treatment.
  • To be line‑managed by an AHP Team Leader.
  • To maintain good working relationships with all other staff involved in patient care.
  • To establish a rapport with patients in order to gain their compliance with treatment programmes.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and adapt approach where there may be barriers to understanding e.g. deaf, confusion.
  • To be a caring, responsible member of the AHP service and to take a full part in the life of the department.
  • The post holder is managed by AHP Team Leader, but has the freedom to act, regarding patient care, guided by protocols and guidelines for conduct. The results/outcomes of treatment/performance are assessed at agreed intervals through the supervision/appraisal process.
  • To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet service and patient priorities.
  • To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multi‑pathologies; use developed clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition.
