Job description
Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our expanding, technician-led dispensary team at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. This role is central to delivering a safe, accurate, and efficient medicines supply service. You will supervise and support dispensary staff, contribute to service development, and deputise for the Dispensary Manager when required. The post also includes Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) duties and opportunities to work across wider patient services, including ward-based pharmacy technician support.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise day-to-day dispensary operations, ensuring compliance with professional standards and clinical governance.
  • Supervise, train, and develop pharmacy staff, including pre-registration trainees and assistants.
  • Act as an ACPT and a clear "super-user" for the automated dispensing system.
  • Manage stock control, controlled drug checks, and system transactions.
  • Provide patient counselling on safe medicines use (including anticoagulants and inhalers).
  • Support governance through error reporting, SOP reviews, and performance monitoring.
  • Contribute to service improvements and help embed Trust prescribing policies.
  • Participate in late-night, weekend, and bank holiday rotas as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC.
  • Qualified as an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) or working towards it.
  • Experienced in hospital or equivalent pharmacy services.
  • Skilled in supervising and training staff, with strong organisational ability.
  • Committed to patient-focused care and service improvement.
