Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a registered Pharmacy Technician with Hospital Pharmacy experience who would like additional responsibility within the Dispensary setting. The post holder will be the link to Theatres and associated areas and will ensure that medicines are supplied in a timely manner. You will also be responsible for removing expired and unwanted Controlled Drugs, with a good knowledge of Controlled Drugs regulations essential.

This post provides an opportunity to develop line management skills as you will be required to manage Band 4 Pharmacy Technicians. Applicants must have the NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) and a BTEC or equivalent certificate, and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Main duties of the job
  • To dispense outpatient, in-patient and discharge prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • To dispense Controlled Drug requisitions.
  • To investigate Controlled Drugs discrepancies in Theatres and associated areas and escalate in a timely manner if unresolved.
  • To ensure that stock items for Theatres and associated areas are dealt with in a timely manner (to-follows).
  • To ensure stock outs in Theatres and associated areas are managed by providing suitable alternatives.
  • To attend and participate in departmental meetings including CPD sessions.
  • To comply with all Trust & Departmental policies and procedures, and to work safely and efficiently.
  • To assist in the training and supervision of other grades of staff.

Job description and Person specification

  • GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician.
  • BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) Level 3 (City and Guilds) and Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF) or equivalent.
  • Experience as a Pharmacy Dispenser/Technician with familiarity in Dispensary and Distribution stock control systems.
  • Knowledge of Controlled Drugs regulations; experience with audit is desirable.
