Job description
Overview

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is seeking a dynamic Senior Pharmacy Technician to operationally manage all aspects of the clinical trials support provided by pharmacy. You will join the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team within the new Pharmacy Medicines Research Unit (PMRU) at University Hospital in Coventry. Your primary role will be to co-ordinate and lead the team of technicians and support staff in setting up clinical trials across a range of clinical specialties, ensuring proper governance is in place.

UHCW is a leading institution for research with an award-winning R&D department. We run a large number of clinical trials across outpatient, aseptic and ward/theatre services. The post is offered on a full-time basis. The team is supportive and provides training in the requirements needed to fulfil the role. Responsibilities
  • Operationally manage the Pharmacy Medicines Research Unit (PMRU), including day-to-day running, staffing levels, co-ordination of staff training and workload (e.g. dispensing, stock control, setup of new studies, implementation of amendments, monitoring visits, IMP destruction/reconciliation, auditing). Report on key performance indicators and raise service-related issues to the Lead Pharmacist Clinical Trials.
  • Lead a team of clinical trials technicians to implement new clinical trials within the Trust across all clinical specialties. Conduct feasibility assessments, cost analyses and risk assessments to ensure trials meet Trust policies and procedures. Create/quality assure trial-specific documents as needed.
  • Provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service at UHCW as an expert practitioner, offering advice and consultancy to patients, healthcare professionals and other agencies on pharmaceutical aspects of treating patients within your clinical specialty.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and organization with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Work effectively alone and as part of a team and contribute to service development and innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with EU, HRA, HSE, Home Office and MHRA requirements for pharmaceuticals dispensed in clinical trials by liaising with the Research and Development department, Lead Pharmacist Clinical Trial, Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team, clinical pharmacists, pharmacists and support staff, and Pharmacy department managers.
  • Ensure patients receive appropriate information on pharmaceutical aspects of clinical trials by providing written information for dispensary staff and answering queries from clinical staff and patients.
  • Maintain a system to ensure the pharmacy department receives all income due from pharmaceutical companies for trial work and review/approve changes to contracts as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other team leaders and senior technicians to support technicians and senior technician involvement in clinical trials.
  • Support the implementation of quality improvement, new services (e.g. ATMP studies) and regional/national initiatives (e.g. HRA Technical Review and EDGE Trial Management System) with changes following change control procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with other Trusts’ Pharmacies in the West Midlands network regarding clinical trials.
Qualifications
  • Applicants must be a pharmacy technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
