Job description

Overview

Our Senior Pharmacy technician team support medicines optimisation across the Trust in critical care, the emergency department and inpatient wards. As a tertiary centre, our specialist wards include respiratory, cardiology, neurology, transplant, haematology, oncology, maternity and paediatrics. We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy technician to join our Trauma and Orthopaedic team, to support the division in the delivery of our Medicines Optimisation strategy within the area. This leadership role provides the opportunity for experienced Pharmacy technicians to put their existing skills into practice, working with innovative technology and systems, whilst also continuing to build further skills to enable future career progression. You will participate in the medicines reconciliation process, supply of medication during inpatient stay, support effective & timely discharge and patient counselling. You will also support the development of rotational staff working within your area and support with quality improvement.

Responsibilities

• Participate in medicines reconciliation, inpatient supply dispensing, near-patient discharge systems and patient counselling.
• Support delivery of the departmental medicines management strategy via provision of technical ward-based pharmacy services.
• Contribute to strategic and operational planning of technical ward-based services in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
• Provide training for all pharmacy staff on technical medicines management, including medicines reconciliation, and act as Educational Supervisor for Pharmacy technicians within the clinical services team.
• Support the Associate Chief Pharmacist – Clinical Pharmacy Services, Lead Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Services and Principal Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Services in service delivery and development.
• Coordinate and supervise the development of rotational staff within the area and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in clinical audits and service evaluations to support service planning and development.

Qualifications and Skills

• Registered Pharmacy Technician with excellent organisational and training skills.
• Ability to work under pressure while ensuring accuracy in all aspects of technical pharmacy.
• Experience with medicines management systems and leadership in a clinical setting.
