Overview

We're looking for an experienced, passionate, motivated Aseptic Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic Pharmacy Services team. This is a unique opportunity to work as part of the Aseptic unit pharmacy team.

Role support and expectations include acting as a specialist Aseptic pharmacy technician in a defined area of speciality, developing and delivering an Aseptic pharmacy service. Support and manage the day-to-day pharmacy Aseptic service provided to Lawrence Ward and Galton Day Unit, ensuring patients receive treatment within agreed timeframes. Act independently as a Team Leader and work according to local procedures and guidelines. Allocate and check work of technicians and assistants in your team, referring to the Principal Technician for further assistance, guidance and support. Manage daily planning and organisation of workload and staff within your team to ensure a prompt and responsive service, adhering to all national, regional and departmental standards.

Contribute to the organisation of the Pharmacy Aseptic Suite to ensure a safe and effective workflow and a neat, tidy Aseptic Suite. Contribute to the induction and in-house training of staff of all grades in aseptic technique and daily organisation, demonstrating the high levels of dexterity and accuracy required. Maintain up-to-date training records for technical staff. Perform as an Aseptic pharmacy technician "authorised accuracy checker" maintaining an appropriate level of competency.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate daily planning and organisation of workload & staff within the Aseptic Services team to ensure a prompt and responsive service.
  • Assist the Principal Technician with planning, organising and managing workload in accordance with the capacity plan, ensuring adequate numbers of trained staff are available and feedback to senior managers when breaches occur.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental monitoring schedules in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Ensure an efficient aseptic dispensing and distribution service is provided to patients and staff in line with current standards and service deadlines.
  • Ensure Aseptic Services administrative duties are carried out by technical staff, including filing and archiving of information and data.
  • Comply with legal requirements relating to prescribing, dispensing and storage of pharmaceutical products and work to SOPs and COSHH regulations.
  • Promote teamwork within the Aseptic Services team and keep the team informed of changes during preparation sessions.
  • Act as a professional role model and develop positive relationships with internal and external key personnel; communicate essential information effectively to all aseptic staff, customers and other pharmacy staff in a timely manner.
  • Work with the Principal Pharmacy Technician to ensure aseptic service runs efficiently and that all staff are updated with changes affecting capacity.
  • Liaise with wards and departments regularly to ensure timely patient treatments.
  • Organise and supervise the daily work of staff in the Aseptic Services team.
  • Prepare aseptic products in accordance with current NHS standards and participate in developing procedures and policies.
  • Assist with training and assessment of new staff and continual improvements per the Pharmaceutical Quality System; assist in changes in working practices and ongoing development and review of SOPs.
  • Coordinate staffing to ensure appropriate skill mix and allocation, liaising with the Principal Technician to identify issues; delegate daily duties to pharmacy technicians and assistants; participate in training and assessment of Aseptic Services staff per national, regional and local requirements.
