We havean exciting opportunity for a Senior Pharmacist at The Princess AlexandraHospital NHS Trust (PAHT). The Trust provides a comprehensive range of generalacute, outpatient, and diagnostic services across its hospital sites. In thisrole, you will participate in the professional pharmaceutical provision ofpharmacy services to the Trust and its external partners, ensuring safe,effective, and evidence-based patient care. You will provide clinical pharmacycover, including near-to-patient services, and support the work of designateddirectorate pharmacists and senior staff, deputising for them when required.The role also involves contributing to specified projects and group initiativesto support service development, as well as participating in the pharmacyemergency duty rota as part of the departments commitment to high-quality,continuous patient care.

Main duties of the job

As aSenior Pharmacist you will work as part of the wider pharmacy team to deliveran effective and professional pharmacy service across a range of key areas,including the pharmacy dispensary, clinical pharmacy services, clinicalpharmacy training, pharmacy technical services, and medicines information. Therole requires adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating toclinical activities, ensuring the highest standards of prescription monitoring,drug chart documentation, and antibiotic stewardship. Additionally, you willwork closely with near-to-patient teams, undertaking tasks such as drug historytaking, supporting patients own drug use, self-medication programmes, one-stopdispensing, transcribing To Take Away (TTA) medications, and providingdischarge counselling to ensure continuity of care and safe, effective use ofmedicines.

Job responsibilities
  • To act as a member of the directorate team and deputise as the directoratepharmacist when required, supporting the management of high-cost drugs,chemotherapy prescriptions, and clinical prescribing guidelines.
  • To provide specialist clinical pharmacy services, including TotalParenteral Nutrition (TPN), clinical screening of prescriptions forinterferons, HIV, anti-TNF drugs, and other high-cost or complex therapies.
  • To manage the safe and effective dispensing of medicines, includingControlled Drugs, clinical trials, extemporaneously prepared products, andintravenous preparations, while supervising and supporting pharmacy staff.
  • To provide patient-centred services, including counselling, medicinesinformation, clinical input into care pathways, and participation innear-patient schemes, ensuring safe and economic use of medicines.
  • To liaise with CCGs and NHS England on drug funding and policy matters,and to provide education and guidance to healthcare staff and patients on thesafe and effective use of medicines.
  • To communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, andpharmacy teams, attend meetings and ward rounds, and participate in training,project work, audits, and continuous professional development activities.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Pharmacy degree with current GPhC registration and relevant clinical or general pharmacy practice qualifications.
  • Experience in clinical pharmacy services at ward level, hospital dispensing services, and project work, including risk management.
  • Experience of using patient information systems, electronic prescribing, and pharmacy dispensing/stock holding systems.
