Overview

My client is seeking a Senior or Principal Sustainability Consultant to join their established Sustainability team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of sustainable design, supporting high-profile projects and collaborating with a broad range of technical specialists across the built environment.

You will join a highly engaged, knowledgeable and collaborative team that values technical excellence, curiosity and teamwork, offering a flexible and supportive working culture with clear opportunities for progression.

The Role

This is a varied and hands‑on role offering a strong mix of project ownership, technical delivery and collaboration.

Depending on experience, you will take ownership of smaller projects while supporting senior colleagues on larger, complex schemes, leading specific workstreams and client interactions. You will play an active role in workshops with clients and design teams, translating complex sustainability challenges into clear, practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Delivering and managing sustainability projects from early design through to completion
  • Supporting senior team members on large-scale projects and leading defined workstreams
  • Leading client and design team workshops with clarity and confidence
  • Delegating, managing and reviewing work produced by others
  • Supporting the training and development of junior team members
  • Undertaking a range of modelling and analysis, including embodied carbon, circular economy, building performance, operational energy, energy generation and overheating
  • Leading the development of sustainability and energy strategies
  • Delivering environmental assessments such as BREEAM, WELL and HQM
  • Supporting the delivery of net zero whole life carbon outcomes
  • Contributing to research, innovation and knowledge‑sharing initiatives
  • Producing high‑quality design deliverables including specifications, drawings and schedules
  • Managing project administration including invoicing, WIP, resourcing and forward planning
About You

You will be an experienced sustainability consultant with strong technical capability and a genuine passion for sustainability in the built environment.

You will bring detailed knowledge in a selection of the following areas, alongside the motivation to continue developing your expertise:

  • Energy strategies and low carbon design
  • Building Regulations Part L assessments using tools such as Elmhurst and IES
  • NABERS UK modelling
  • In‑use energy modelling and performance assessment
  • Dynamic thermal modelling and overheating analysis
  • BREEAM and HQM assessments
  • Bespoke sustainability and circular economy strategies
  • Health and wellbeing strategies and certification
  • Planning documentation including sustainability statements, energy statements, whole life carbon and circular economy reports
  • Net zero carbon strategies and embodied carbon assessment
To Succeed in This Role, You Will Have:
  • Experience within sustainability consultancy and be ready for a new challenge in a leading practice
  • A relevant degree and strong technical foundation
  • Confidence leading sustainability workshops with design teams
  • Clear, professional communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Enthusiasm for working within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment
