We are looking to recruit band 7, Senior Practitioner to work as part of the Urgent Treatment Centre team, who will be responsible for providing high quality health care and information to the public. An opportunity exists for an experienced and highly motivated practitioner with relevant Adult or Paediatric experience who is committed to making a valuable contribution to the further development of these successful and pioneering services.
As a Registered Nurse you will be responsible for supporting your Manager in ensuring that our service users needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being.
The services offer treatment for minor injuries and minor ailments 365 days per year, and are open from 8am to 9:00pm, with the addition of diagnostic X-ray facility 8am-8pm.
If you have post qualification experience in A&E, Walk-in Centre or Urgent Care with recent experience in the treatment of minor ailments and minor injuries we would like to hear from you.

Job Purpose:
To act as a senior clinical professional within Widnes Urgent Treatment Centre. Liaising with the UTC team and colleagues across the wider social and health care environment to promote, maintain and enhance effective multidisciplinary patient care.
To act as the lead specialist and independent practitioner who provides advice to patients and staff which contributes to assessment, diagnosis, care and treatment of clients.
Possess and demonstrate extended skills in the management of a wide range of health care problems i.e. minor illness and injury. Exercise professional independent and clinical judgement in managing or referring clients to a variety of primary and secondary care services as appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Fulfil the role of coordinator on a day-to-day basis and assist the Clinical Lead in fulfilling the operational requirements of the service within budgetary limits. Delegate responsibility where appropriate and encourage a culture of flexibility and adaptability. Support and maintain the focus of the nurse-led service. Promote a positive approach to change. Participate in and promote the development of professional nursing practice.
Exercise a high degree of clinical independence and professional judgement, treating independently within the Urgent Treatment Centre and where necessary referring to a range of primary organisations. Provide highly specialised advice when reviewing patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed health care problems. Assess health care needs, diagnose, treat and manage as appropriate, referring to care services as required. Possess proven skills in the management of minor illness and injury, wound care, chronic disease management. Undertake a range of clinical procedures and participate in triage to ensure smooth patient progress. Initiate and conduct clinical investigations as appropriate. Supply and administer medications as appropriate via PGD. Exercise independent prescribing rights in accordance with current legislation and ICB criteria. Identify at-risk patients and manage appropriately in line with policy and procedures. Collaborate with the Clinical Lead/Operational Manager in coordinating services and patients within the UTC. Act as an advocate for the patient and empower colleagues and clients. Maintain knowledge of legal and ethical issues, and demonstrate effective communication in complex situations. Ensure safe manual handling and high standards of patient care.
Registered Prescribers (if applicable)
To safely and effectively prescribe medication to patients as an independent prescriber and to apply knowledge of drug actions in prescribing practice. Understand the legislation relevant to nurse prescribing and the roles of others involved in prescribing, supplying and administering medicines.
Participate in identifying education and training needs of the team, deliver on-the-job specialist training, and support students and post-graduate learners. Demonstrate a commitment to training and education, disseminate best practice through evidence and guidelines, and maintain own clinical and professional expertise through supervision and PDP. Participate in teaching sessions to promote clinical excellence within the UTC team.
Promote a research culture within the UTC and actively promote the use and dissemination of research evidence. Initiate and participate in audits and evaluation of the service to drive practice change.
Engage in collaborative working with colleagues in primary, secondary and social care. Maintain effective communication and referral systems within the UTC and across care sectors. Ensure comprehensive clinical documentation in line with local and NMC guidelines, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professional communication in sensitive situations. Develop cultural competence and utilize Trust e-mail and data communication systems as required.
Provide and receive highly complex communication for highly specialised advice to patients, including those with learning disabilities or mental health issues, and barriers to understanding.
