Overview
We are working with an established Building Services contractor who are seeking a Senior Project Manager to join their team in the North East. Their primary focus is on delivering technical mechanical services to a broad spectrum of repeat clients, including collaboratively working directly with main contractors, contract administrators and end users.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of multiple mechanical projects simultaneously across sectors including education, healthcare, and commercial.
- Oversee site teams ensuring compliance with programme timelines, health and safety standards, and company procedures.
- Ensure the optimal allocation and management of site labour to align with project needs and commercial targets.
- Lead progress meetings, monitor installation milestones, and report issues proactively to senior management.
- Take full commercial responsibility for project budgets, working with Quantity Surveyors and Procurement team.
- Review tender returns and ensure effective procurement of materials, labour and subcontract packages.
- Conduct monthly CVRs and ensure projects remain cash positive.
- Approve project expenditures within authorised thresholds and flag financial risks early.
- Act as principal point of contact for clients throughout project lifecycle, maintaining professional communication.
- Lead client meetings, reporting on progress, financials, safety, quality and any key risks.
- Manage expectations and address concerns quickly, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
- Oversee QA procedures ensuring installations meet design specifications, statutory requirements, and company standards.
- Provide leadership to project managers, engineers, and supervisors, ensuring high standards of delivery.
- Can approve POs, sub-contract orders and invoices up to £10,000.
- Can authorise site labour changes to optimise productivity.
- Can escalate financial and commercial issues to the Operations Director.
- Acts as final project sign-off authority prior to handover.
Experience required
- Excellent commercial awareness and contract management.
- Clear communicator (written and verbal).
- Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, and drawing review (AutoCAD/PDF).
- Ability to prioritise tasks and solve problems under pressure.
- NVQ Level 3 or above in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
- SMSTS / SSSTS Certification.
- CSCS Card - Manager level.
- First Aid at Work (preferred).
- Proven experience delivering multi-million-pound MEP projects from start to finish.
- Strong background in managing teams, budgets, programmes, and health & safety.
- Experience working under JCT and NEC contracts.
