Overview

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Cowes, Isle of Wight
Salary: Up to £63,150 depending on experience. Part time and accruing hours available. Please let us know if you would like to discuss these options.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical engineering support to mechanical engineering design activities for new and legacy products.
• Develop conceptual designs for radar products, sub-systems and units.
• Produce technical documentation in line with company guidelines.
• Attend and contribute to design review discussions/meetings.

Collaboration and Development

Engage with different engineering disciplines and competencies within the local project and BAE Systems more broadly. Undertake continuous personal development to build own skill, knowledge and competence in a range of business situations. Support the development of other early career engineers within the discipline.

Required qualifications and experience

• Essential: Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Full engineering lifecycle experience.
• Defence, Marine or extreme environment engineering industry experience.
• Broad understanding of mechanical engineering theory and technology with an interest in developing specialist experience in cooling systems, finite element (FE) analysis and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

About the team and approach

Mechanical Engineering Radar Team: The team covers the whole engineering lifecycle using the latest cutting-edge technology. Joining the Mechanical Engineering Radar team provides significant exposure within the broader BAE Systems organisation. BAE Systems Naval Radar delivers radar products and support services to a diverse range of customers worldwide. This role provides engineering management support as part of a team delivering capability upgrades to the Royal Navy over the next 10 years.

You will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your skills and knowledge, with potential to progress into more senior positions within a global business. Our working approach offers flexibility with working hours, depending on role and location. This could include accruing hours and flexibility around start and finish times to balance work, site presence and home life.
