Job description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be a key member of the Engineering Department, providing expertise in the design, manufacture, and repair of complex machinery. The role will support the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions across a variety of projects, with a strong focus on advancing the organisation's growth in renewable energy, particularly through the development of large Hydro Generators.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical design of machinery, including stators, rotors, assemblies, upgrades, and retrofit projects
  • Provide engineering leadership across all project phases, working closely with clients and stakeholders
  • Use simulation and modelling tools to validate performance and compliance with requirements
  • Oversee and participate in testing activities, both in-factory and on-site
  • Carry out diagnostics, condition analysis, and life-cycle evaluations, producing clear technical reports
  • Deliver service and maintenance support to ensure reliability and long-term asset performance
  • Partner with tendering and project management teams on bids, proposals, and execution
  • Develop and implement test methodologies for dynamic machinery testing, analysing performance data
  • Perform root cause analysis on machinery failures and recommend corrective actions
  • Produce repair instructions and technical documentation to guide the recovery of failed or degraded equipment
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience in detailed design of rotating machinery such as motors, generators, turbines, pumps, or similar equipment
  • Strong expertise in mechanical design, simulation, and testing methodologies
  • Collaborate with CAD engineers and draughtsmen to review engineering drawings and support design and manufacturing processes
  • Proficient in diagnostics, failure analysis, and life assessment of machinery
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, commissioning, and service activities for large-scale equipment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring junior engineers
