Overview

Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Knutsford, Cheshire
Hours: 40 hours per week
Duration: 6 months
Rate: £50.00 - £65.00 ph Ltd per hour (Outside IR35 due to SME status)
Company Size: SME
Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office, 2 days per week from home)

Role Overview

Reporting to the Engineering Manager (Projects)/Lead Mechanical Engineer, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of mechanical deliverables produced by the Projects Group. The role includes mentoring junior engineers, preparing scopes of work, delivering mechanical design packages, and attending both internal and external project meetings. Direct involvement in construction and commissioning support may be required depending on project demands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and lead mechanical engineers.
  • Approve mechanical designs, drawings, and deliverables.
  • Develop and implement company, national, and international standards.
  • Prepare cost, duration, and resource estimates for proposals.
  • Prepare specifications, data sheets, and enquiry packages for equipment suppliers.
  • Prepare scopes of work for installation contractors and deliver mechanical design packages.
  • Attend progress, interdisciplinary, constructability, HAZOP, HAZID, risk assessments, client meetings, and workshops.
  • Attend client offices and undertake site visits across the UK and occasionally overseas.
  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines and senior management.
  • Provide input or oversight on construction and commissioning support as required.
Minimum Requirements - Education & Professional Background
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered status (or working towards).
  • Must hold and maintain SC clearance.
Technical Experience
  • Experience in design and engineering with knowledge of equipment specifications, pipe and valve specification, material selection, and welding/fabrication.
  • Familiarity with regulations and standards including CDM, PER, PSSR, CE, and UKCA marking.
  • Experience working in safety-critical or regulated environments, with an understanding of Safety Cases.
  • Strategic mindset with ability to manage scope changes.
  • Ability to collaborate with all engineering design and construction disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Designer and Principal Designer roles under CDM.
  • Experience using Navisworks (desirable).
  • Skilled in Office 365 including OneDrive, SharePoint, Word, and Excel.
Additional Skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Eligible to live and work in the UK.
  • Full UK/EEC driving licence.
