Overview

Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Totnes, Devon
Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE

We are working with an established technology business seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their R&D team. The company designs and manufactures specialist high-performance products used internationally, with a strong reputation for innovation and quality.

This role will focus on the design and development of the mechanical aspects of the next generation of products. You will be working closely with other engineers in a collaborative team, using 3D CAD tools to take concepts through to manufacture. The position also includes providing mechanical problem-solving support to production and contributing to continuous improvements in product performance and design.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for new and existing products.
  • Produce accurate 3D models and detailed technical drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Use CAD facilities for 3D rendering and prototyping.
  • Work closely with colleagues, suppliers, and sub-contractors to ensure effective design delivery.
  • Support the production team with mechanical problem-solving and design queries.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modelling and drafting).
  • Experience working with complex assemblies, machining, or fitting.
  • Strong understanding of designing pressure housings.
  • Proven ability to produce detailed designs for manufacture.
  • Strong self-management skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Working with moulded products, resins, plastics, adhesives, or optomechanical equipment design.
