Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (5+ Years Experience)

Location: Plymouth

Salary: up to GBP50,000 + Benefits

We are partnering with an established engineering business that is expanding its product development team and seeking 2 talented Mechanical Design Engineers to work on creating globally recognisable security devices.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a multi‑disciplinary team designing cutting‑edge technology used globally.

A successful applicant will have strong mechanical design experience within a product development environment.

Role Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the full product lifecycle from initial concept generation through to prototyping, testing and final production release.

You will create practical, innovative design solutions and work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to bring robust products to market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create initial concept designs based on customer needs or project briefs.
  • Develop components and assemblies using a variety of manufacturing methods, such as:
    • Plastic injection moulding
    • CNC machining for plastics and metals
    • Sheet metal fabrication
    • Vacuum forming
    • Aluminium and plastic extrusion processes
  • Build, test and refine prototypes to validate design intent.
  • Work closely with suppliers to enhance design for manufacturability.
  • Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs), cost estimates, detailed drawings and supporting documentation.
  • Generate engineering change notes and assist with product release into production.
  • Investigate and apply new materials, technologies and processes to address challenging design requirements.
