Job Description:

Delighted to be recruiting for a leading General Insurance firm, who are seeking to hire a Senior Legal Counsel for their established, growing legal function. This role can be based either one day per week from the office, or fully remote to suit the candidate.

The role will report directly to the Group General Counsel and will play an integral role in shaping legal strategy, as well as assisting on key ad-hoc projects and business wide initiatives.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for:

  • Advising and assisting on Group-wide legal and business projects.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating key commercial agreements. These will include both Insurance (Distribution, TOBAs, Claims Handling) and Non-Insurance contracts (Licencing, SAAS, Supplier Agreements, material outsourcing).
  • Liaise with key internal functions including Underwriting, Claims, Finance and Operations.
  • Assisting on Regulatory queries and liaising with key regulatory bodies, including FCA, PRA etc. on new regulatory changes affecting the retail insurance sector.
  • Drafting and reviewing policy wordings related to the retail insurance sector, including motor and home.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 5 years+ PQE from Private Practice and/or In-House within the Insurance or Financial Services Sector. England & Wales qualified or equivalent.
  • Insurance industry experience would be preferable. Ideally, you will have worked within a retail insurance environment.
  • Experience in drafting commercial contracts, both Insurance and Non-Insurance. Insurance Distribution experience would be a major plus.
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment and liaising with financial regulators, including PRA and FCA.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal queries to key stakeholders across the business.
